Role Brief

In this role, working with a major SL Controls client, your primary role will be the maintenance of rational databases including both Decision Support
Systems and Online Transactional Processing.

You will provide and ensure data availability, integrity, and security and perform routine database administration functions including installation, configuration, and upgrading of databases and software on various platforms, database capacity planning, pro-active performance monitoring and tuning, security procedure execution, backup and recovery.

Core Tasks:

  • Define requirements and associated designs for relational database systems.
  • Work closely with application development team to ensure successful deployment and performance of database applications.
  • Resolve issues and recommend the most cost effective solutions.
  • Lead or participate on the design and implementation of large, complex database solutions.
  • Consult with developers and clients to determine the impact of new and revised processes on the overall architecture of systems.
  • Facilitate monitor and implement solutions around data replication for multiple databases.
  • Implement advanced monitoring and alerting solutions for database systems.
  • Maintain appropriate level system documentation.
  • Maintain and ensure database consistency, integrity, security and auditing in accordance with regulatory and compliance requirements.
  • Performs database patching and supports OS patching at regularly scheduled intervals.
  • Manage development, testing, and implementation of database systems to meet database capacity standards and sizing objectives.

Supervisory Tasks:

  • Mentor and oversee the technical duties of less experienced staff members.
  • Work with a distributed DBA team.
  • Exercise considerable judgment and latitude in determining objectives and approaches to assignments.
  • Use your latitude for discretionary action or decision with work reviewed as required
  • Responsible for the successful completion of moderate risk assignments that have a significant impact on database operations.
  • Use best practices to ensure success of work assignments and/or projects.
  • Perform difficult assignments that are multidimensional or cross-disciplinary in nature, developing solutions to a variety of complex problems which require originality and/or ingenuity.
  • Apply initiative and judgment in accomplishing resolution of unusual situations.

Skills Brief

Required:

  • Experience in large enterprise database environments, as well as solution delivery methodologies gained through a combination of formal training and progressive work experience.
  • Experience working in a regulated environment.
  • Experience working with company operating procedures, policies, tasks, and processes.
  • Experience with transactional and/or data warehouse practices.
  • Experience in Database Security.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Fluent in Linux/Unix shell scripting, SQL and PL/SQL.
  • Experience working with Oracle on Linux/Unix.
  • Strong experience with Backup/Recovery using Oracle RMAN and DataPump.
  • Strong experience with High Availability using Oracle RAC and Data Guard.
  • Ability to meet deadlines on multiple projects and handle multiple assignments.
  • Ability to perform in a diverse cross functional team environment.

Preferred:

  • Experience with GoldenGate
  • Experience with Oracle advanced security
  • Ability to architect the database based on user requirements

Person Brief

You must at a minimum have a Bachelors Degree in Computer Science or an equivalent degree with a strong focus on database concepts and technology. A minimum of 7 years of experience in Oracle database administration is essential.

Some experience in the Pharma, Life Sciences or Medical Devices manufacturing setting would be preferred but is not essential.

You should have proven experience at Senior or Lead level in a database administration role and the ability to develop and mentor less experienced individuals while also managing senior level stakeholders in other teams and functions. Exceptional communication skills and attention to detail are essential qualities for this role.

The role will be based onsite in Kilkenny so you should be living within a reasonable commute of the site of willing and able to relocate with 1 to 2 months.  

You should have a valid work permit allowing you to work in Ireland or be an EU or UK citizen.
