Role Brief
The Automation Engineer performs a variety of engineering functions for Automation & Controls requiring a wide diversity of technical knowledge involving automation / controls improvement and supporting the introduction of new highly technological equipment and new products into a fully automated and integrated 7×24 manufacturing regulated and audited production environment.
You will ensure that manufacturing equipment meets company specifications, schedules, and budgets. You will take a primary position in activities involved with sub-contractors from beginning of the design process through to installation and start-up processes. You will be a primary focus as advocate for continuous improvement of technology and processes during an alternate working hours schedule.
Some Key Responsibilities:
- Identifies, plans, and executes projects (both major and minor) involved with machine software automation & controls improvement.
- Qualifies new equipment controls and performs vendor and site acceptance testing to meet appropriate and applicable engineering/government standards.
- Participates in troubleshooting and resolving equipment, systems, and process problems to prevent the occurrence of product nonconformity.
- Provides guidance to other Engineers, Associates, and line technicians in troubleshooting efforts.
- Identifies key opportunities to develop and implement new automation software and/or controls that will improve efficiency, product yield and safety.
- Identifies key areas and provides technical training and support.
- Performs other related duties as assigned by management.
- Provide support to manufacturing operations as required during off-shift hours
Skills Brief
Essential:
- A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering discipline with at least 7 years’ experience working with automated controls systems in a highly automated, regulated manufacturing environment is required.
- Extensive experience programming, integrating and troubleshooting PLC, and related platforms in a high-speed discrete manufacturing environment is required.
- Experience reading & updating electrical drawings
- Engineering experience with high-volume production line environment
- Experience supporting 24×7 manufacturing operations; the ability to be on-call during off hours if required
- Project management experience
- Some leadership or mentorship experience as you may have leadership responsibilities for one or more employees
- The ability to work under general supervision and work within established guidelines and have flexibility as to method, priority and timing of job duties
- A solid level of professional initiative and judgment
- A willingness to work holidays and weekends if required
- Excellent detail oriented organizational skills
- Ability to work at the Jacksonville, FL site
Preferred:
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience working in FDA or GMP environment
- Working experience in Robots, Lasers, Servos
- Solid experience in Siemens, Allen Bradley, Rockwell, and other automation systems
- Working knowledge and/or troubleshooting skills in the following areas: Process improvement, safety devices, equipment installation, debug and qualification, control circuitry development, electro-mechanical troubleshooting/repair, equipment prototyping, production start-up, equipment process development and mechanical devices, controller, mechanical fabrication design
Person Brief
Candidates must have a B.Sc. degree in Engineering or equivalent, with emphasis in software development, electrical, electronic or automation discipline, with a minimum of 7 years’ experience in industry, preferably in a pharmaceutical, biotechnology, blue chip or relevant FDA/GMP manufacturing environment.
The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills and strong problem skills.
You should be available to be onsite in the role location as required as this is an onsite designated role.
